No truth to End of the World on May 21, 2011, PAGASA states!

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) scientist Mario Raymundo said that there is no astronomical event that can be associated with the prediction of US evangelical Christian broadcaster Harold Camping that the world would end on May 21, 2011.

End of World: May 21

“The planetary alignment is too far to affect us. As for his prediction of a massive quake, there is no basis for it. It won’t happen. This is not true,” he said. Harold Camping, 89, head of the Christian radio network Family Stations Inc. previously made a failed prediction that Jesus Christ would return to Earth in 1994.

Phil Younghusband, BlackBerry Messenger's latest advocate!

Phil Younghusband on BlackBerry Messenger

Phil Younghusband, the Fil-British star midfielder of the Philippine seniors’ national football team, is the latest advocate of BlackBerry® Messenger (BBM™), the highly popular mobile social network for the global BlackBerry® community.

Phil grew up living and breathing football. Football is his avenue for self-expression, which he feels is the reason behind his mad love for BBM.

When Phil gets off the football field, the first thing he checks is his BBM. “I’d get congratulations, you played well, or you didn’t play so well. It is a good way to communicate and let friends and family know how I feel after a game,” Phil said. “I can send unlimited messages without worrying about SMS fees,” he added.

Phil loves expressing himself using emoticons on BBM. “You can make someone smile by using emoticons,” he said. “There are so many ways you can express yourself on BBM.”

Nowadays, he gets to share his passion for football with the youth through The Younghusband Football Academy. “I need to coordinate with a lot of people, coaches, management, and players. BBM gives me the opportunity. It’s so easy to use and keeps me connected.”

With more than 43 million people actively using the service around the world and an astounding 2,500 new users being added every hour, BBM is the world’s largest mobile social network platform.

“Don’t be afraid of who you are; don’t be afraid to express yourself,” Phil is an advocate of being true to one’s self and doing what one loves to do.

Powered by BBM, Phil confidently says, “I’m not a footballer. I’m a messenger.”

Here are some highlights from the interview:

On working with Owen Wilson: “It’s definitely a different dynamic from the last time we were together. It wasn’t as fun being mean. I love that Woody likes good guys to be good guys and bad guys to be bad guys. Owen seemed to respond really well when I was a really bad guy.”

On her role in Mean Girls: “With Mean Girls, I originally auditioned for the part that Lindsay Lohan played. I wouldn’t have seen myself playing Regina at all. But when I read the script, I thought, Oh, this part is way more fun; I wonder who will play that.…”

On being a romantic: “I am. When Billie Holiday comes on, I can’t help but be transported—and I’m sure it wasn’t as romantic then at all—but that’s the wonderful part of my job: dressing up and walking down the street in New York or Toronto, pretending I’m in the ’40s.”

On finding inspiration in her parents’ marriage: “[They are] Still together and still in love. I’m very blessed that way. I had a great example of love in front of me, and that’s probably what makes me such a romantic, because I’ve seen it firsthand.”

On her expectations for relationships: “You grow up and you assume that everyone is like that, and you quickly realize that they’re not, and then you have those days when you wonder if you’re going to find it for yourself. It’s such a hard thing to find. I think it was more that realization that rocked me.”

On being hesitant to take on certain roles: “Sometimes I don’t think I’m the best person for the job. That was the case with Morning Glory. Sometimes I think, Really? You see me as this? Just because I don’t see myself that way, does that mean I shouldn’t do it? I tend to go, Is this the right decision? What are the ramifications of doing this part? You can start to overanalyze. But once I make the decision, it’s full steam ahead.”

On the critics’ reaction to Morning Glory: “It’s funny, because so many people said to me, “It’s the kind of film you don’t see anymore, done in a way that isn’t done anymore.” I thought that was a really positive thing, but apparently not. I only hear these businesspeople: “Well, no one was sure who it was for.”
